Field Trip Reflection
by Bethany Shedrick
From Haven to Home: The purpose of this exhibit was to learn how immigrants moved for other country's to America (Chicago in particular) and settled down and began the new life of an American. I liked the photo's that were taken, then placed on the wall because it was interesting to imagine what they looked like before the move to America (Chicago) and when they settled. The pictures did no take place very long ago. Most of them were taken 10 or 14 years ago. I also liked the art that was displayed behind a glass box. There were books about immigration that the kids had hand made themselves. The essays were fantastic because they were so real and I could relate lots to them.
Children of Immigrants:
1.) I chose the Furlo's Family Restaurant photo because it was interesting. It showed some guys who looked Mexican. (I can't say for sure) They were standing in front of a Restaurant Even though the picture was taken in 1998, there clothes looked as if it were from the 50's. I was curious to know why.
2.) " Tolerance means being accepting and helpful to others. It's about having your opinions and good listening to those of others. Tolerance is about justice. Tolerance is about, being a good American in our free country." I chose this quote because i agreed with it. Though, I didn't catch the authors name.
3.) Mark Yan
This essay is called The Home of the Brave, by Mark Yan. I can relate to this essay because my parents are hard working and there nationalities started from different parts of the world. They say being a new immigrants can be hard at times, but you have to get through it at some point, just like daily loopholes in life.
